The ponytail is growing in popularity, from the office to glamorous evenings out. Yoan Aumond, stylist and owner of Kharactèr salon, is a huge fan of the ponytail and explains how to wear it right for the nine-to-five.
“The office ponytail should be worn low,” Yoan advises. “It should fall between the base of the skull and the occipital bone.” Then, part your hair in the middle rather than on the side to give the look a more sophisticated feel. Camouflage the elastic by rolling the hair around it then attaching the hair under your ‘do with a bobby pin. And lastly, avoid pulling your hair back too tightly because it can give off a very rigid look.
So, in essence, you can start by separating your hair like usual with a brush. If you have bangs, you can just let them hang normally. With your hands, gather your hair together toward the back and tie it with an elastic. You’ll save some time and the look will be a lot more natural. Yoan suggests passing a brush quickly through your hair on each side before pulling lightly at the hair underneath to add some volume. Our pro’s secret? Use paste or hair spray to control loose hairs. For those with curly hair, don’t bother straightening it because curls are perfect for adding volume to a ponytail. And just like that, your ‘do is ready for the office.
